| Date: 12th May 10 Subject: 1855 Treaty Rights In Minnesota NEWS REPORT FROM 1855 TREATY AREA - SOUTH On behalf of the southern division of the 1855 Chippewa descendants of the Mississippi Bands, Mushkooub, current chairman of the Rice Lake Rice Committee, reports there will be a public forum Friday, May 14th, from 1 till 3p.m. at the old East Lake Community Center to inform non-band and 1855 tribal members about the rights the Chippewa say they have. Impacted southern Mississippi Band members retain rights guaranteed in the treaty with the United States Government 155 years ago. Mississippi Band members have a vested interest in this treaty. We are the political successor people of the original signatories of the 1855 treaty. The southern division of the surviving 1855 Mississippi Bands maintains minimal government-to-government relations with the federal government but have no overall legal standing recognized. The Bureau of Indian Affairs must protect and acknowledge our reserved rights pursuant to our understandings of the treaty. You are cordially invited to attend the picnic and forum May 14, from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. at the Old East Lake Community Center.
